Chapter 8 / 10
VII. Where do we go from here?
Defines the capability ladder, the integration boundary with Devim, and conditions that would falsify the project.VII. Where do we go from here?
30. Capability ladder
Selective relational revision is only the beginning. If this layer can be scientifically adjudicated, the next capabilities are:
Rival Reconstruction under Underdetermination. Retain genuinely alternative explanations that remain compatible with the same evidence.
Discriminating Action. Select the most informative observation or intervention for separating those alternatives.
Concept / Schema Revision. When changing existing values and relations is not enough, alter the representation schema through operations such as split/merge.
Mediated Abstract-to-Concrete Reconstruction. Instead of accumulating surface features, reconstruct relations, mediations, counter-tendencies, and reproduction mechanisms as a whole.
Each stage requires its own benchmark, ordinary baseline, falsification test, and claim boundary.
31. Relation to Devim
Computational Dialectics is currently independent from the training of the Devim Turkish language model. The reason is not to slow the research down, but to avoid mixing two different failure modes. Did a model fail because it understands Turkish poorly, or because the representation-revision mechanism is poor? Combining the systems before this distinction is established would blur the scientific result.
The long-term goal is to collect mechanisms that genuinely earn evidence into a Computational Dialectics Core, and then integrate that Core with Devim under controlled conditions. At that point, a Transformer may remain as the language substrate, the Core may connect to its latent/state flow, or experiments may show that another substrate is more suitable.
But the Core will not be a "philosophical commentator" operating after the LM head. If integration happens, it must have a causal effect on representation and downstream prediction.
32. When should this project be considered unsuccessful?
The scientific value of Computational Dialectics depends on keeping conditions under which it can be falsified explicit. The special-architecture claim should be narrowed or abandoned if:
- matched ordinary systems perform equally well or better;
- the gain can be explained only by extra compute;
- ablating the Core does not change the result;
- the "rivals" are only paraphrases;
- behavior is only answer/value update rather than representation revision;
- there is no open-domain transfer;
- the architecture damages language capability unacceptably;
- the measurement system becomes a circular evaluator that rewards the mechanism we designed.
A negative result is not defeat here. Killing an unnecessary architecture early is a strong research outcome.
